报告摘要:Integrating new institutional logics in incumbent organizations triggers strong resistance from incumbent logics. The required institutional work inside organizations—institutional intrapreneurship—involves distinctive challenges. By using qualitative data from Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) programs inside a large healthcare organization, we explain how low-status institutional intrapreneurs are able to achieve successful intrapreneurship in incumbent organizations. We found that institutional intrapreneurs take advantage of circuitous tactics to first gain support from external stakeholders and supporting departments inside organization who are more compatible with the new logic, and then leverage extensive support to gain acceptance of protectors of incumbent logics. Our study also shows that peripheral individuals in middle-status organizations are more likely to be institutional change agents in high institutional field. This study advances our understanding of the process of institutional change inside organization.
