报告摘要：
  

The talk summarizes four studies in sentiment analysis at the Division of Information 
  

Studies, Nanyang Technological University. The first study examines the differences in 
  

sentiment expressions used in movie reviews from four Web genres—blog postings, 
  

discussion board threads, user reviews, and reviews by movie critics. In the second study, 
  

a linguistic approach is used perform sentiment analysis of movie reviews at the clause 
  

level to identify the sentiment orientation and strength towards different aspects of a 
  

movie. A visual interface is developed to explore the extracted sentiments. In the third 
  

study, a method is developed to compute the overall sentiment of a clause based on the 
  

sentiment scores of individual words, that are taken from sentiment lexicons (Subjectivity 
  

Lexicon & SentiWordNet). The method is applied to analyze drug reviews. A general 
  

sentiment lexicon is currently being developed manually. The fourth study seeks to chart 
  

a new direction in sentiment analysis research to analyse not just the sentiment orientation 
  

and sentiment strength, but also the type of sentiment expressed in text. The Appraisal 
  

Theory developed by linguists is applied to analyze political news articles to identify 
  

writers’ opinions of George Bush and Ahmadinejad on the issues of the Iraq War and the 
  

economy. The results suggest how such an analysis can be useful for political science and 
  

communication researchers, and new types of sentiment analysis that can be developed by 
  

computer scientists.

Christopher Khoo, 新加坡南洋理工大学Associate Professor, 于1982年获得美国哈佛大学学
  

士学位，1987年获得伊利诺伊大学香槟分校图书情报学硕士学位，1997年获得雪城大学博
  

士学位。他曾担任过新加坡南洋理工大学信息科学系系主任, 期刊《Singapore Journal of 
  

Library and Information Management》的主编。 他的研究领域包括文本挖掘（信息挖掘、自
  

动文摘和情感分析），医疗决策支持系统，知识组织，用户浏览行为等，已经发表过40多
  

篇期刊论文和60多篇会议论文。
